International Charters of the South Pacific

This spectacular South Pacific charter area is made up of French Polynesia, Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Solomons, Cook Islands, Samoa, Wells Fortuna, and Kirabati, amongst other island groups, dotted across the South Pacific Ocean between vast expanses of ocean. The area is so huge that cruising seasons differ across it; however, in general a tropical climate prevails with varying degrees of rainfall. The land is made up primarily of volcanic islands surrounded coral reefs and crystal clear waters in multiple shades of blue and green.

Diving and snorkeling are outstanding throughout the South Pacific, making it an ideal international charter destination. There are also miles of pristine volcanic beaches in varying colors, dotted with palm trees. This is a wonderful place to relax and bask in nature. But the unique history and culture that can be found on each island chain are also well worth exploring.

French Polynesia is actually five archipelagoes spread over 1,240 miles, halfway between California and Australia, in the middle of the South Pacific. A yacht charter itinerary in the Society Islands captures the best of this exotic region.

The main Society Islands are Tahiti, Moorea, Raiatea, Taha’a, Hauhine and Bora Bora. They are just five or six hours sail from each other aboard your private charter yacht. Each island is dominated by tall volcanic hills covered in luscious green undergrowth and surrounded by coral reefs that shelter its lagoon and sandy beaches.

Tahiti, the largest and best-known of the islands, is the place to go if you are looking for a soothing spa, an elegant candle-light dinner or a trendy nightclub. The capital city of Papeete is a good place for shopping, especially if you are in the market for black pearls. Fans of the painter Gauguin, who lived on the island for several years, will want to visit the Gauguin Museum.

Moorea is the “poster child” for the Society Islands – a verdant isle dotted with small villages made up of pastel-colored houses encircled by hisbiscus and birds of paradise. Raiatea, the center of Polynesian culture 1,000 years ago, is known as “the Sacred Isle.” Flower-shaped Taha’a is full of farms where fragrant vanilla is the main crop. The double island of Huahine, surrounded by a deep lagoon, is the perfect spot to find a private anchorage. Bora Bora, topped by towering Mt. Otemanu, is considered by many to be simply the most beautiful island in the world.

If you charter in the Society Islands in August through October, you might also get a glimpse of a humpback whale to make your magical experience complete.

Each day should start with …

Here’s a hot tip FROM ONE OF OUR CHARTER EXPERTS ABOUT YOUR SOUTH PACIFIC YACHT CHARTER:

This is a large area with many countries and itineraries to enjoy, but if you should find yourself in Fiji, the yacht can arrange for you to visit a village and take part in a Kava ceremony. It is customary to present a gift of Yaqona (Kava root) to the executive head of the village. Fijian people are very patient and will talk you through this interesting ritual.
