International Yachting Charters Destination: Mexico

The Pacific coast of Mexico offers several different charter yacht itineraries that combine world-class offshore fishing and spectacular sunsets with delicious cuisine and vibrant nightlife where you can dance to a Latin beat until dawn.

The Baja peninsula runs for more than 1,000 miles south of the California border to Cabo San Lucas its tip. Many charter yachts are based in this touristic town, known for its famous rock arch formation springing the sea. In addition to being one of the sportfishing capitals of the world, it also offers upscale marinas, resorts, shopping, and an international cuisine.

Cabo San Lucas is a jumping-off spot for exploring the southern Sea of Cortez by yacht. A tranquil sea of crystalline waters surrounded by a rugged desert environment, it is full of beautiful beaches and anchorages. Today, many of the islands and coves remain just as explorer Hernan Cortez would have seen them five centuries ago: untouched by civilization.

About 100 miles north of Cabo, deep in the Sea of Cortez, is another popular yachting haven, La Paz. A modern city, it is still home to historic buildings such as the Catedral de Nuestra Senora de La Paz, built in 1861. Offshore lie a scattering of rocky isles with pretty bays and abundant marine life. Archeologists are said to have found evidence of human life on Isla Espiritu Santo as far back as 40,000 years ago.

Further south along the Mexico’s Pacific coast, another popular charter yacht vacation itinerary includes stops in Puerto Vallarta, Bahia Navidad, and Manzanillo. Green jungles, white sand beaches, and dramatic cliffs – you can find them all here. The best known of these cities, Puerto Vallarta, offers all the pleasures of a modern tourist mecca, including fine dining and golf.

La Paz is the jewel of the Baja Peninsula.  It is a decidedly Mexican town with a romantic atmosphere full of charm. Stroll the Malecon; this promenade is the place to see and be seen. It stretches for several kilometers past sandy beaches. Vendors, fishermen, and La Paz’s friendly residents make the promenade a lively spot for people-watching, especially on Saturday evenings.
